Blame Her!

Blame Her! Rowena is looking for a way out. Like many young girls, she dreams of a simpler, sunnier life.

Every weekend she flicks through holiday brochures to console herself, before returning home to her alcoholic sister Maria, and her boyfriend Frankie; a criminal Rowena has already sent to prison once. He will stop at nothing to get his way, and is again blackmailing Rowena and deceiving her sister.

For Rowena, every weekend is the same battle. But this week-end, Rowena will meet a man she will really like…

  • Research and Development: When developing the script, we created a partnership with Aquarius. Aquarius is the Midlands based alcohol and drugs charity. We shared stories with individuals and the Community in a respectful process.
  • Tour in Birmingham / West Midlands
  • UK Tour: Brighton (Marlborough Theatre), London (Kings Head Theatre)
  • Education and outreach: As well as being promoted to the General public, the stage play was attended by young people approached through schools, youth centres, connexions, voluntary organizations, etc. The young people were also offered workshops and discussions as a follow up. The play was the opportunity to introduce discussions around binge drinking. In Blame Her!, the issues of binge drinking were confronted through the character of “Maria”, without suffocating the play, which remained energetic new theatre.
